Definition:Lladro

Lladro dog figurines are produced by the Spanish porcelain house founded by the three Lladró brothers in Valencia in 1953. Lladro is world-renowned for its distinctive aesthetic: a muted pastel palette of grey, blue, cream, and tan; elongated, graceful forms; and a narrative approach that depicts dogs in intimate, poetic moments rather than formal breed studies. Their hard-paste porcelain achieves a characteristic finish — neither fully matte nor high-gloss — that is immediately recognizable. For collectors, Lladro’s practice of ‘retiring’ models creates genuine scarcity; retired Lladro dogs can trade at substantial premiums over original retail prices, particularly complex or large pieces. All Lladro pieces carry the blue backstamp with the Lladro name and country of origin.
