A striking combination of colors and the realistic rendering of the black and white terrier make this vintage card tray a wonderful piece to display on a side table, or utilize on a desk or dresser to hold small items such as coins, cufflinks, paper clips, etc…It was made by the Mosaic Tile Company c.1935, and it is unique in that it is multi-colored. Most of the tiles created by the company during that time were of a single color. The base has a dark metallic glaze with an over glaze of green, reminiscent of Rookwood. This particular piece was used as an advertisement for the company, and therefore “Mosaic” is marked on the front of the base, just below the dog’s front paws. The dog is a crisp black and white with lots of fur lines that give it a very realistic look and his stance with his head slightly cocked to one side, gives him a lot of character. The base has a well on each side of the dog for holding coins, and the underside is stamped Mosaic Tile Co. Zanesville Ohio and New York, NY. This piece is in wonderful condition with a slight chip in the paint at the tip of the dog’s tail, and a tiny pinhole on the tip of one ear. Considering his age, this dog is quite worthy of being a treasured item in your home, or a great gift for a dog-loving friend.
