This large, Mortens Studio, Kerry Blue Terrier looks quite fancy, but this wonderful breed is the quintessential working dog, first bred in County Kerry, Ireland.

The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a gift ware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition.

This Kerry Blue Terrier figurine is in perfect condition.

Measuring 5″ tall x 6″ long x 2 1/2″ wide, he is both large, and one of the more “hard-to-find” Morten Studio dogs.

He has been designed with a great deal of attention, with a gorgeous blend of deep grey and a lighter, blue-grey coloration, and a “bumpy” texture, to realistically capture this breed’s wonderful furry curls.

His deeply thoughtful, soulful expression, is captured perfectly as well.

He will certainly be a fabulous addition to any Mortens Studio collection and the perfect addition to the home of any Kerry Blue Terrier owner, trainer or breeder.
