You can’t help but smile when you see this print of two comical Scotties by Grace Gebbie Drayton, an American illustrator, (1877-1936) best known for her “Campbell Soup Kids”. It’s history makes it even better. It is signed in the plate by Drayton, and it is titled at the bottom center ” Check and Double Check”. On the lower left it reads: “Drawn by Grace G. Drayton, and at the lower right is “Courtesy of R.K.O. Radio Pictures.” The story of this art begins with it being commissioned by R.K.O. as an advertising piece for the 1930 Amos and Andy movie of the same name.
This print is in a plain black wood frame with glass, and a wire on the back for hanging. The frame has some slight marks on it.
This is a “must-have” for any Scotty lover or collector. It will look terrific alone, but combined with other sketches, or, even better, grouped with Scotties done in different mediums…a porcelain, a bronze, a carved wooden piece, a glass Scotty…it would be AMAZING!
