This fabulous and humorous vintage portrait of a trio of Basset Hounds was originally done by Thierry Poncelet.
This artist was born in Brussels in 1946, and specialized in whimsical dog portraits. His work has been highly sought after and he has exhibited in many major galleries, worldwide.

This portrait is of three very dignified, Victorian Basset Hounds. Entitled, “The Gilded Burymores”, it is a spoof on Europe’s first theatrical family of record, the Barrymores. The story goes that the brothers, Basset and Lucien, and their sister, Maude, never married and lived together, and seemed to have generated a great deal of scandalous gossip.

This wonderful work of art is a post-Poncelet piece. It is artist-signed, but the signature is difficult to read.
The frame is a work of art as well. It is solid, gilded wood with gorgeous detailing, and of course quite an appropriate frame for “The Gilded Burymores.”

The entire piece measures a full 34 1/2″ tall x 30″ wide x 3 1/2″ deep. It is in excellent condition.

It is a fabulous, light-hearted work of art that would certainly thrill any Basset Hound lover, and would certainly become the focal point and immediate conversation piece in any home.
