This outstanding Mortens Studio Saint Bernard stands a full 6 1/2″ tall x 8″ long x 3″ wide, and weighs 2 lbs and 6 oz.

One of the largest of the dog models designed by Oscar Mortens, it is listed as model #778 on page 15 of the “Royal Designs Lifelike Miniature Models” Chicago Studio Catalog c.1930’s.

Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next two decades, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition.

This perfect model of a standing Saint Bernard dog has certainly stood the test of time. She is in mint condition.

She has the uniquely friendly and welcoming look that is a well-known characteristic of the breed. She looks so realistic, that it is difficult to pass her by without reaching out to touch her.
