This Ditmar Urbach dog pitcher, hand-painted in red, black with a touch of white, on a yellow background is not only stunning, it is quite rare. Dating from the 1930’s, it is stamped “Handpainted Erphila Czechoslovakia” and impressed “922”. Other similar pitchers were designed and manufactured in Europe around the same time by Ditmar Urbach, but they are more commonly the rooster and the toucan. The dog is not as often found. This spectacular pitcher is in excellent condition with the exception of some slight paint loss along one side of the handle, which is extraordinary for its age. The “spots” you see along the back of the picture are not flaws, but rather reflections caused by the camera.
We love it as a design piece because it catches and holds your attention immediately as you walk into the room. Its whimsical design and unusual colors make it so appealing, that it’s no wonder that there are few, if any to be found for sale. It is a substantial piece, standing 6″ tall, 4″ wide and 9″ long. It weighs 1lb. 10 ounces.
