This exquisite antique dachshund was designed by Vera Bartels for the Nymphenburg factory in Germany. He was modeled after a rather high born hound, “Labori II of Bergsteig”, a prizewinning male Dachshund, whose photo circled the world in the form of a postcard. It is the only dog that she ever produced for Nymphenburg.
This wonderful dog is under glazed and hand painted, giving him a beautiful, “soft” look as well as a brilliant sparkle. He is done in a dark brown/grey colouring, which is the one that is most rare of the three colourings it was produced in. He is in flawless, excellent condition and measures 6 3/4″ tall x 9″ long x 3 1/2″ wide. He is impressed with the Nymphenburg mark on his underside as well as the number 167.
Both his physique and his unique character; a mix of strength, loyalty and single mindedness, have been masterfully captured by the artist.
He is an extraordinary tribute to his breed, and the “champion” of any Dachshund collection.
