This wonderful, reclining Collie dog was designed and produced by Mortens Studio. At 3 1/2″ tall x 8″ long x 4 1/2″ wide, he has fabulous detailing, showing rippling fur, as well as that characteristic calm  Collie “look”.

The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a gift ware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models.

Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition.

This dog has a small rough spot on the inside of one ear . Otherwise she is in great condition.

Along with the Mortens Studio mark on its underside, it is also marked 4-9-50, showing the day it was purchased, and added to the collection of her previous owner!
