One of the “hard-to-find” Mortens Studio dog figurines, this elegant Welsh Terrier dog is in MINT condition! This happy, lively and devoted dog is the oldest existing breed in the UK, and sadly in danger of dying out…having as few as 300 puppies registered annually. The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition. A “must-have” for any collector of Mortens Studio dogs, and a unique and beautiful gift for any dog lover, this Welsh Terrier stands 4 1/2″ tall x 5″ long x 2″ wide. He is clearly marked on his underside and also has an intact foil label on his left side. If the history and the future of this wonderful dog doesn’t capture your attention, his thoroughly engaging face will!
