This beautiful porcelain ashtray just begs to be used as a trinket dish. It was designed and made by Metzler & Ortloff of Germany, and it carries all the charm this designer typically adds to all their canine figurines.
This beautiful porcelain ashtray just begs to be used as a trinket dish. It was designed and made by Metzler & Ortloff of Germany, and it carries all the charm this designer typically adds to all their canine figurines. In this case, the dog is a Fox Terrier, who is standing in the bowl of the ashtray. The entire piece is done in a creamy, white porcelain. The dog, however, looks to be standing in a puddle of water, which the artist created by adding a touch of pale blue, and a few ripples in the porcelain. It is a wonderful, whimsical, touch that really makes this piece special.
Measuring 6 1/8″ long x 5 1/2″ wide x 2 3/4″ tall, this ashtray is in excellent condition. It has a clear Metzler & Ortloff maker’s mark, stamped on the underside, along with the country of origin, which is Germany. This particular mark dates this piece from the 1910’s-1940’s.
This lovely ashtray is a wonderful Fox Terrier collectible. It would look gorgeous holding your jewelry, coins, cufflinks or desktop trinkets.
