Percival Leonard Rosseau (1859-1937), was long recognized as a master at painting Hunting/Sporting Dogs. However, he also made wonderful etchings of his canine subjects, that he kept from his public, and done primarily for his own pleasure and amusement. This classic etching, entitled “Cooling Off”, depicts three Sporting Dogs, two Setters and one Hound, taking advantage of a pond for a drink and a soak. It is in excellent condition, done on paper, and framed under glass at 16 3/4″ tall x 12 3/4″ wide. The etching is titled on the lower left corner and signed and dated on the lower right. The frame is wood, painted black, and in good condition with only minor paint loss at the edges. This example of fine Sporting Dog Art would look fantastic as part of a gallery in a foyer, office, or den, and it would certainly be a unique and treasured gift to anyone who owns or just loves Hunting Dog breeds.
