This original painting pastel by the well-known artist, John Emms, is a sensitive and beautiful depiction of a Foxhound tenderly licking its paw. Emms (1843-1912) was a sporting and animal painter who lived in London. He specialized in portraying horses and dogs, particularly hounds.

His portraits of dogs were considered outstanding and his work is characterized by strong brush strokes which he would use to highlight the anatomy and fur texture of the dog.
