This wonderful Collie dog is one of Mortens Studios larger figurines. Standing elegantly at 6″ tall x 7″ long x 2 1/2″ wide, she is in near perfect condition, with very mild crazing and a hairline that runs down her chest and stops at the top of her left leg (see photo). The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a giftware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition. Beautiful detailing (just look at this Collie’s eyes!) and the subtle coloring that is a hallmark of Mortens Studio designs, make this classic dog a perfect addition to any Collie collection, and a gift to be treasured by any Collie owner!
