This “Puppo” still bank of a puppy is quite well-known. This sweet little puppy, sporting a big bow and sitting on a pillow, is looking, with great concern, over her shoulder at a bee that has landed on her. The very interesting part is that this Hubley cast iron still bank was manufactured under exclusive license from Grace G. Drayton , who was the illustrator who created the Campbell Soup Kids. If you look at this puppy’s face, even with her furrowed brow, she looks just like a Campbell Soup Kid.
She measures 5 1/2″ tall x 5 1/2″ long x 4 1/2″ wide. Her painted has darkened and chipped over time, but it is all original paint, which adds to her value and vintage appeal. She was manufactured pre-WWII, between the 1920’s – 1930’s. The Hubley Manufacturing Company, located in Lancaster , PA , stopped manufacturing cast iron toys and banks when the war effort required the iron for military use.
This wonderful “Puppo” still bank would make a fantastic addition to any cast iron bank collection, as well as an adorable decorative addition to your home with a special history included.
