SylvaC dog figurines were produced by Shaw and Copestake Ltd., operating from Longton, Staffordshire from the early 20th century until the company’s closure in 1982. SylvaC is instantly recognizable by its characteristic textured, matte-glazed pottery — often in naturalistic fawn, green ‘Sahara,’ or ‘orange peel’ surface textures. Their most famous piece is the sad-faced Terrier, Model 1209, which became a staple of English homes in the 1930s and remains the most collected SylvaC dog model. SylvaC assigned model numbers to all pieces; collector reference guides list over 3,000 models, and serious SylvaC collectors track values by number and color variant. The distinctive matte glazes in unusual colors — particularly the rarer blue, pink, or lilac variants of popular models — command the highest premiums.
