Dahl Jensen dog figurines represent the pinnacle of early 20th-century Scandinavian porcelain artistry. Jens Peter Dahl-Jensen (1874–1960) trained as a sculptor at Bing & Grøndahl before becoming a master modeler at Royal Copenhagen, where he developed the underglaze painting technique that defines his work. He founded his own factory in Copenhagen in 1925, producing dog figurines characterized by soft, luminous coloration and remarkable anatomical accuracy. Dahl Jensen dogs are often rarer and more expensive than comparable Royal Copenhagen production, reflecting both the smaller scale of the factory and the sculptor’s uncompromising quality standards. Production continued after Dahl-Jensen’s death under family management until the factory’s closure. Genuine pieces carry the distinctive DJ mark.
