An antique dog collectible is defined as any piece at least 100 years old — the standard recognized by U.S. Customs and major auction houses. In the broader antiques trade, the antique designation is sometimes applied to pre-World War II objects (roughly 80+ years old). At A Dog’s Tale Collectibles we use the strict definition: made before 1925 qualifies as antique. Pieces made from 1925 to 1985 are considered vintage. Both categories are actively collected, and age alone doesn’t determine value — condition, maker, and rarity matter far more than whether a piece clears the 100-year threshold.
