This exquisite portrait of a Fox Terrier and her two pups was created by Leon Danchin (1887-1939), a noted French artist. He trained as a sculptor, but was also devoted to drawing, watercolours and engraving. His specific interest was country scenes with particular attention to dogs. His eye for detail and expression was extraordinary, and his images of, in particular, canines, grace some of the most prestigious homes in the world.

This portrait is framed under glass. (Please excuse our photography. Glare from the lights can be seen in some of the photos.) The Fox Terriers measure 23″ x 17″, and the entire piece, including the frame measures a full 31″ x 24″. It is pencil signed by the artist and the copyright can also be seen in the upper right hand corner. It is also hand written and reads:”La Gavure Francaise of 41 Rue St. Georges, Paris 1930.” Edition records indicate that this is one of 500. There is a pencil written number at the bottom left corner, but it is difficult to read.

While the art is in excellent condition, there are some specs of dust between the glass and the matte. The wooden frame looks to be the original one for this piece and it shows wear along the edges.
