An extraordinary vintage German Shepherd porcelain figurine, produced in Selb-Plössberg, Germany, by the world-renowned Rosenthal porcelain factory circa 1950s.

Sculpted by master animalier artist Max Hermann Fritz (1873–1948), this fine porcelain German Shepherd (Model #980) measures 6″ tall by 3 1/4″ wide by 4″ deep and captures the intelligent, alert posture of the breed with a lively open-mouthed expression.

Hand-painted (handgemalt) in rich tan, charcoal, and dark brown underglaze tones, the figurine is finished in a brilliant high-gloss glaze.

The underside is clearly stamped with the official green Rosenthal Selb-Plössberg backstamp, hand-painted mark, and incised with both the model number 980 and “M.H. FRITZ” artist signature.
