Add a touch of early 20th-century craftsmanship to your home with this exceptional valet tray. It was made by the Mosaic Tile Company, and it is unique in that it is multi-colored. Most of the tiles created by the company during that time were of a single color.
This piece features a masterfully sculpted Wire-haired Fox Terrier with a realistic “broken” coat texture, standing at attention between two elegant wells. The terrier is finished with classic black body and ear markings that stand out beautifully against the crisp white porcelain-style glaze.
The base is finished in a deep, lustrous forest green, characteristic of the high-quality art pottery (such as Rookwood) produced in Ohio. The underside is clearly impressed with the manufacturer’s mark: “The Mosaic Tile Co. – Zanesville, Ohio & New York, N.Y.” This hallmark indicates a production period between the 1920s and 1950s, making it a significant find for collectors of Ohio art pottery and canine-themed antiques.
Measuring a full 5″ tall x 7″ long x 5″ wide,it is in excellent, ready-to-display.
Whether used to organize daily essentials or displayed as a standalone sculpture, this tray is a striking tribute to one of America’s most historic tile and pottery makers.
