This absolutely stunning bronze Setter dog was created and signed by Jules Moigniez (1835-1894), a French animalier sculptor, known for the fine detail and chiseling of his sculpting. His highly detailed works included detailing on the bases, which set him apart from the other popular animaliers of his time (P.J. Mene and Antoine-Louis Barye.) His works were much more popular outside of France than they were in his native country. They were especially popular in England and in Scotland, and by the end of the 19th century, his sculptures had become quite popular in the USA as well.
Unfortunately, this great talent suffered a log illness in the later years of his life, and he committed suicide at the age of 59.
This extraordinary dog stands 8 1/2″ tall x a full 20″ long x 8″ wide. He is on a green marble base. He is in excellent condition with a wonderful patina. If you have been waiting for the perfect bronze dog to be the focal point of your living room or your office, you have just found him.
If you are a collector, this rare and extraordinary Moigniez bronze is a “must-have” for your collection.
