The first piece of this extraordinary, antique set features three sitting whippet dogs, circling a globe-shaped inkwell with a hinged lid. It contains the original porcelain insert, which is in perfect condition. The globe is slightly loose, but secure. The dogs are highly-detailed, with intaglio eyes with ruby chips. The inkwell and the pen tray are two separate, but perfectly matched pieces. One of the dogs on the pen tray is missing the chip in it’s eye, but it is very hard to notice without close inspection.
Both pieces are in otherwise excellent condition. The inkwell measures 4 1/2″ tall, and is 4 1/4″ in diameter at the base. The pen tray measures 9 1/2″ long, 3 1/4″ wide and 2 1/4″ tall.
Both items are being sold as the set that they have most likely been for over 150 years. These are truly magnificent antiques, worthy of gracing the most elegant desk or office.
