Vintage Poodle Bookends
This charming pair of vintage Poodle bookends were made by the Lefton Company in the 1960’s.
Can we “Fetch” a classic Poodle
or perhaps another new friend for your consideration?
This charming pair of vintage Poodle bookends were made by the Lefton Company in the 1960’s.
These mid-century darling dogs are each sitting pretty in shades of white, cream and taupe. Their platforms are made to look like books, one standing and the other, lying flat, also done in creamy white with gold-tone edging on the faux books’ pages.
Each bookend measures 5 3/4″ tall x 5″ long x 3″ wide. They are in great condition with some mild age-related wear. They also have their original foil labels.
The Lefton China Company was founded by George Zoltan Lefton of Hungary. The first company was located in Chicago in 1941.
Lefton was one of the first American businessmen to do business with the Japanese after WWII. The first Lefton pieces manufactured by the company were marked “made in occupied Japan.” At one time, the incredibly popular Lefton china was being sold in over 10,000 US shops. Lefton china continued to be made in Japan until the 1970’s.
These lovely Poodle bookends would be a beautiful addition to any Poodle lover’s home and collection. They also have this interesting provenance tied to the history of the Lefton China Company.
