This enchanting brass Cocker Spaniel bookend was made in the USA by the PM Craftsman Company of Eaton Park, FL. c.1930. It depicts two lively Cocker Spaniel dogs trying to reach each other, while one is lying on the spine of an overturned book and the other is attempting to scale the book from the side.
This wonderfully detailed bookend is identified in “The Collector’s Encyclopedia of Bookends” by Louis Kuritzky and Charles DeCosta, and titled “Dogs at Play.” In this book, it is given a rarity of 5, with 5 being the most rare. It is in great vintage condition, with a lovely patina, and weighs nearly 4lbs.
Measuring 51/2″ tall x 5 1/2″ long x 3 3/4″ wide, it is covered in kelly green felt on the underside. This vintage bookend is truly so beautiful, that it makes any book it holds firmly on a shelf, that much more special!
