Antique – Circa 1850
This antique, Begging Dog ,Rockingham Pitcher, is in the form of a Toby pitcher with a tri-cornered hat.

It is an outstanding piece of pottery, that was formed in two separate, front and back pieces. They were joined while the clay was still wet, and you can see a faint seam on each side of the dog, showing where the two sides were joined together.

The distinctive Rockingham glaze was applied to accent the dog’s face and front paws, with the caramel-colored clay shows through the glaze. It stands a full 9″ tall x 5″ long x 3 3/4″ wide. It is in excellent condition with 2 small spots on the underside of the pitcher. We do not know whether they are small chips, or if they are simply spots caused by a lack of glaze. They cannot be seen unless the pitcher is turned over.

This is a wonderful, and hard-to-find example of this pottery, and one that any collector would certainly be pleased to own.
