He is marked “Erphila Germany” on the bottom. It was a mark used by the giftware importer, “Ebeling and Reuss” of Philadelphia between 1886 and the 1950’s. The mark is a combination of the letters E & R (Ebeling and Reuss), and the first letters of Philadelphia.
His coloring is quite realistic. It not only gives the dog dimension, it also adds a “softness” to the dog, that is a characteristic of ERPHILA figurines.
His expression is quite captivating. While not quite “gregarious”, he certainly looks like he is calmly surveying a world that he is quite comfortable with.
Measuring 4 1/4″ tall x 8″ long x 4″ wide, he is in excellent, ready-to-display condition.
