French – Lemanceau  Circa 1930s
From their sleek bodies, to the rectangular base upon which they stand, this gorgeous pair of running dogs are a fine example of Art Deco design. One is a Borzoi dog and the other is a Greyhound Dog engaged in a fabulous race.

They were made in France by Charles Lemanceau in the 1930’s. Lemanceau was born in Paris in 1905, and first exhibited his work at Saint-Clement, France in 1930. Specializing in animal sculptures, he is one of the most important sculptors of the Art Deco period in France.

Not all pieces by Lemanceau were signed, but this elegant piece shows a partial signature along the side corner of the base.

It stands a full 13″ tall x 21 1/2″ long x 5″ wide. It is in excellent condition with a touch of mild crazing along the back of one dog, as shown in the picture.

For a Borzoi and a Greyhound enthusiast, such a wonderful study of both these elegant breeds is an exceptional find. It is not only beautiful, but if you take a look at these dogs’ expressions, you can not help but see their exuberant companionship as well.
