This wonderful, antique Parian figurine depicts two recumbent Cavalier King Charles Spaniel dogs.
Parian, is a type of bisqueporcelain that was created to imitate marble. It was developed in the 1840’s by the Minton Pottery Factory of Staffordhshire, England. It was named after “Parus”, the Greek island renowned for its’ finely-textured, white marble used in antique sculptures. Its’ great advantage was that it could be prepared as a liquid, and then cast in a mold. This enabled mass production of sought after figurines.
This elegant dog figurine is gorgeously detailed and measures 2″ tall x 4 1/4″ long x 2 1/2″ wide. It was made by the English firm of Copeland & Garrett, c.1840 – 1850.
It is in excellent condition, with a very small chip on the underside of its’ base, near the edge, that cannot be seen when this figurine is displayed.
Not only are these lovely Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, highly collectible, and would be a very unique addition to any Spaniel dog collection, they would also make a fabulous gift to any Cavalier King Charles Spaniel enthusiast.
