Full of personality, charm, and distinctive breed character, this vintage ceramic English Bulldog figurine was handcrafted in the United States by Townsend’s Ceramics during the mid-to-late 20th century. Sculpted in a relaxed, belly-down “sploot” with his hind legs splayed out behind him, this substantial fellow captures the wonderfully lazy, lovable nature Bulldogs are known for. He measures 4 1/2″ tall, 12 1/2″ long, and 6 1/2″ wide, making him an eye-catching statement piece for a mantle, library desk, or canine art collection.
Every roll, furrow, and jowl has been modeled with lifelike anatomical care. Finished in a lustrous, high-gloss glaze, his coat features a warm, reddish-brown back accented by soft cream rolls, folded rose ears with delicate dark tipping, and expressive brown eyes. His open mouth reveals a sweet, lolling pink tongue and detailed teeth. The unglazed base retains its original oval gold foil label reading “Handcrafted Townsend’s Ceramics in U.S.A.” alongside hand-painted mold mark 320N, as well as felt protective pads. He is in excellent vintage condition, entirely free of chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs.
