Kay Bojesen was a Danish designer who became a pioneer of “Danish Modern” wooden toys and decor. His most famous canine contribution is the “Walnut Dachshund,” designed in the 1930s. Bojesen’s philosophy was that toys should be “soft, rounded, and have a soul.” His wooden dogs—usually carved from oak, walnut, or limba—are masterpieces of minimalist design. Unlike fragile porcelain, Bojesen’s dogs were meant to be handled. Today, vintage originals from the mid-20th century are highly sought after by MCM enthusiasts who value the warm patina of aged wood and the clean, functional lines of Scandinavian craftsmanship.
