Definition:Beswick

Beswick (John Beswick & Sons) was an English pottery powerhouse based in Staffordshire, beloved by collectors for their incredibly diverse “Canine Line.” Starting in the 1890s and reaching peak popularity in the mid-20th century, Beswick produced figurines that were both affordable and remarkably accurate to “Breed Standards.” Their “Champion” series is particularly famous, as many models were modeled after real-life prize-winning show dogs of the era. Beswick pieces are usually identified by a clear backstamp and a unique model number. They are a favorite for “Breed-Specific” collectors because Beswick often produced multiple versions of the same breed in different poses (sitting, standing, lying) and colors, allowing for a deep and varied collection within a single breed.
