This wonderful, recumbent Collie dog was designed and produced by Mortens Studio.

At 3 1/2″ tall x 8″ long x 4 1/2″ wide, he has fabulous detailing, showing rippling fur, as well as that characteristic Collie calm and gentle expression.

The designer of this figurine, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a gift ware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models.

Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples in perfect condition.

This dog has a very small chip on the top of one ear, that is hard to see unless you are looking for it. Otherwise, he is in excellent condition.
