Circa early 1990s
This antique porcelain dog fairing tells a story of a dog’s humorous response to the calls of three cats.

Fairings were often used to depict humorous circumstances. This dog, who looks to be a Staffordshire Terrier, is doing his best to politely “put off” these annoying cats.

Fairings were made and hand-painted in Germany and given out at outdoor fairs in England in the early 1900’s.

This fairing was made by Conta & Boehne of Germany.

Measuring 3 1/2″ tall x 3 1/2″ long x 2 1/4″ wide, it is beautifully hand-painted, with some numbers impressed on the underside of the base.

This fairing was also created to be used as a matchstick holder, with a ridged back to be used as a striker.

This fairing has some damage, with the handle of the beer stein missing, along with a chip to the back of one of the dog’s ears.

Otherwise it is in excellent condition.

Fairings are unique and highly collectible porcelain figurines, and the perfect dog lover’s gift.

This fairing, is a special favorite for Staffordshire Terrier lover’s, and the perfect addition to any porcelain dog collection.
