This wonderful, antique ashtray was exported from Japan to the United States between 1891- 1921.
It is handpainted, and features a reclining hunting dog in relief with a background of trees. Entitled “Tree in the Meadow”, it measures 5 3/4″ in diameter, and 2 1/4″ tall. It carries the Nippon mark in the center of its underside, and it is in excellent condition.
Because Nippon was primarily created for the American and European markets, it looks more European in design than Japanese.
Its delicate, handpainted detail, exceptional quality and superior workmanship, all add up to be a truly exceptional work of art, as well as a highly collectible pottery piece.
This Nippon ashtry would make a fabulous addition to the home of any hunting dog enthusiast, and a wonderful gift to any dog-loving friend.
