How and Where to Sell Dog Figurines

Collecting antique and vintage dogs is a delightful and rewarding hobby that most often turns into a decades-long passion. Selling your collection can often feel just the opposite: unpleasant, overwhelming, and disappointing.

There are many reasons why this is the case.

How to sell Antique and Vintage Dogs

Selling porcelain dog figurines, especially those with reasonably high market values, don’t lend themselves to garage sales and flea markets. These venues run the risk of damaging and seriously under-valuing items. The money that you make when selling your antique and porcelain dogs this way is simply not worth the time and investment.

Selling online, however, has been proven to be a good way to sell porcelain dog figurines.  But it’s a crowded and expensive space that can also be quite time-consuming.

Sell Dog Figurines on eBay

eBay is the most common option people look into when they sell anything, dog figurines included. It’s available to everyone. The good news is that you don’t have to own an online shop to participate. Yet, you will have to do a lot of work for each item. You’ll need to take high-quality pictures that match eBay’s standards. Plus, you’ll need to research your items, both for their provenance as well as their value.

This research should lay out competitive items for each of your dog figurines, along with the price people are asking for them. Remember, though, you won’t be able to tell how long a competitive item has been for sale at a stated price unless you study eBay daily for many months.

Next, you’ll need to set an asking price for each item and the lowest price you will accept if you auction them. You are also responsible for communication with each buyer and the safe packaging and shipping to each buyer. Complaints, returns, and damage or loss during shipping are also possibilities. These issues are the seller’s responsibility.

Finally, it is important to remember that eBay is not a free service. Fees apply depending on how you sell each item and the number of items you have posted on this platform.

The Other Platforms

There are other very effective platforms that you can employ to sell your items. RubyLane, Etsy, Chairish, and 1st Dibs, to name a few.

Each one of these online platforms requires that you open a shop.

Along with everything you would need to sell on eBay, you will also have to take on the time and work required to “manage” your shop. This includes customer service activities, how your shop “looks” to potential customers, and keeping updated on your items and pricing compared to others competing with you on that platform.

Each of these platforms charges fees for “hosting” your shop online, fees as a percentage of each sale, or both. It is important to remember that you are ultimately paying for exposure to potential customers. All the other work involved is entirely, once again, your responsibility. If this is beginning to look like a full-time job…it is.

A Better Option

Here at A Dog’s Tale Collectibles, we’ve worked hard to create a service that both gets you the correct value for your dog figurines and is easy on you.  We call it ‘Sell With Us.’

Before you join the ‘Sell With Us’ program, we take pictures of your dog figurines from you and research each for their current values and likelihood of selling. Our store history and our very active buying means that we usually know your item or know exactly how to research it. We share that information within a day or two of receiving your pictures.

When you join the 'Sell With Us' program, we post your dog figurines under our account on all the platforms described above, plus our online shop here at this website. Such cross-platform listing radically increases the number of interested buyers who will see your products.

We aim to ensure you get the right value and that those who buy the dog figurine don’t overpay.  We work hard to be an honest and trusted broker and do everything possible to keep our stellar online rating.

A Dog's Tale can create wonderful posts of your dog figurines for every selling platform discussed above and remove the entire workload from your shoulders.
