Definition:Cold-Painted Bronze

GLOSSARY

Cold-Painted Bronze

Cold-painted bronzes are sculptures produced in Vienna and finished using “dust paint” also known as polychrome paint. The coating was best suited to bronzes.

Antique experts claim the recipe for “dust paint” has been lost. The colored coating was not cured by fire or heat, therefore it is called “cold-painted. Such painting was typically carried out by women who worked from home.
