This rare, Burslem Pottery dish features a pair of Scottish Terrier dogs.
Burslem, England, as early as the 17th century, was identified as the “mother of all potteries.” It was noted, above all others. for the best classes of pottery made in England. Most of the pottery was decorated earthenware, made primarily for domestic use. It is rare to find figurines made during that time, especially dogs.
This lovely trinket dish is done in a soft, buttery yellow with a glazed finish.
The two dogs almost appear to be having a conversation as they walk along its edge. Their expressions are just so charming.
The entire piece measures 2 1/2″ tall x 4 1/2″ long x 3″ wide, and it is in excellent condition. It is stamped under the base “Burslem Potteries, England.”
Along with being such an engaging decorative piece, it would also make a wonderful dish to hold your most treasured trinkets.
