Who doesn’t love a Boxer puppy dog? These adorable characters, designed by Mortens Studio in the 1930’s-1940’s, show that Boxer “playfulness” to perfection!
One is sitting 4″ tall x 2″ long x 2″ wide. He is holding one paw up and he is gazing up towards what must be a friendly face. He has such an earnest expression, that you can’t help but wonder whether he is asking for forgiveness or a treat. He is in perfect condition. Any tiny light spots you might see in the pictures are only the result of the camera.
The second dog is crouching with his front paws extended and his back end up in the air. Those of us who know Boxers well, know that this position signals some wild and playful antics to come.
This dog is also in excellent condition. He measures 2 1/2″ tall x 3 1/2″ long x 2 1/4″ wide.
The designer of these figurines, Oscar Morten, immigrated from Sweden to the U.S. and opened a gift ware studio in Chicago in 1931. Over the next 32 years, he created over 300 popular dog and horse models. Composed of ceramic over a metal skeleton, these figurines, although beautiful and engaging, were prone to crazing and flaking, thus making it difficult, today, to find examples, like these, in perfect condition.
These Boxer pups are also the perfect desk or tabletop “friends”, guaranteed to make you smile! They would also make a wonderful gift to any Boxer lover, but we caution you that once you see them together, they will be quite difficult to give away!
