Mention 19th Century Print “Three Pals” Hunting Dog Portrait c.1901 plus the item number ART-2182

This very old portrait was originally created by Merlin Coe Hamilton in 1901. It was entitled “Three Pals”, and from what we can find, seems to be the only noted art by this artist. He was an American artist, born in Whitewater, Wisconsin, whose estimated life span was 1849-1909.

This artwork looks to be an antique print done on linen paper. It appears to be glued to a wood frame, with rough wood slats across the back. The original art was done as a rectangle, which included the artist’s signature and the title “Three Pals”. When this print was created, it was done in a circle, thereby cutting off the signature and the title. It is signed along the left side of the circle by a different person, A.E.Knox. We don’t know if this is the person who created the print, or simply someone who previously owned it .

Either way, it is a gorgeous portrait of three hunting dogs. The print is quite old, and it has a few blemishes and wrinkles. Yet, seems quite securely attached to its very rustic wood frame. It measures a full 24″ tall x 22″ wide, and it shows quite well.

If you are looking for a true antique print to hang alone, or as part of a canine gallery, this is a very unique and wonderful find.
